Filipino cultures' beliefs and values are important because they: Define Filipino identity: They provide a shared sense of history, tradition, and community. Guide decision-making and behavior: They influence morals, relationships, and interactions with the world.

Culture goes beyond our language, food, holidays, and attire. It includes our values, beliefs, and behavior. To truly understand each other, we should first examine and reflect on our own culture.

Pinoy pride is an assertion that the people and culture should promote the interests of the Philippines by developing, and maintaining a national identity based on largely shared characteristics such as language, race, religion or political goals

BAYANIHAN (We Are Aeroes to Each Other)

In the Philippines, the Bayanihan spirit is one of communal unity, helping others without expecting rewards, to achieve a certain goal. In earlier days, when houses were made of lighter materials such as coconut leaves, Bayanihan also meant helping one's neighbours move their house — literally.

PAGMAMANO (Giving Respect to Elders)

“Pagmamano” is a Filipino gesture often done by young people to the elders as a sign of respect. This is done by gently striking the elder's right hand to the young's forehead. Usually, especially in the provinces, the elder will say “Kaawaan ka ng Diyos” (May God have mercy on you).

Using "PO & OPO" (Respect)

Respect is deeply ingrained within the Filipino culture and language with terms like “po” and “opo” in their sentences when talking to elders or someone higher in position. While opo is a formal way of saying yes or agreement, they use po as a sentence extension for formality and respect.

Magiliw na Pagtanggap (Hospitality)

Filipino hospitality, or “magiliw na pagtanggap,” is a cultural practice passed down from generation to generation. Basically, it refers to the warm and welcoming nature of the Filipino people towards their guests. It is deeply ingrained in the Philippines' culture to treat visitors with utmost respect and generosity.

Love for God and Family

In a Filipino household, it is common to find three generations living together. Often, grandparents play a large role in raising their grandchildren. Extended family will often live relatively close to one another and will come together during large celebrations.
